Flying can often be a daunting proposition. Largely stripped of its jet set allure, air travel today routinely has more in common with a cross country Greyhound bus trip than its Pan-Am roots. Which makes stepping off the E concourse of Salt Lake City International airport and directly into the High West Distillery and Saloon all the more gratifying.
A raising of the bar from the typical airport lounge, High West offers up signature and classic cocktails featuring their catalog of craft whiskeys and spirits. Paired with a menu of standard yet tastefully prepared and presented fare, the Saloon is a pleasant departure from the food court kiosks that have dominated the airport eating experience for the past twenty odd years.
While the entire menu of both food and libations was quite appealing, in the end a decision had to be made. A High West BLT and Rendezvous Rye on the rocks proved a light and simple yet satisfying solution.
