Though we here at MicroShiner focus primarily on contemporary craftsmanship, and that of spirits in particular, I think there is much to be said for, and to be learned from, exceptional designers and products of the past. And judging from the spaces that many distillers inhabit and their tasting rooms utilize, a lot of people in the craft scene share my opinion.
Vintage and retro are huge right now, and for 40s through 70s fashion, I can't say enough about the genius that is Your Vintage Life. Kate and Adam simply amaze with their keen eye, unwavering dedication, and encyclopedic knowledge of the era. If I were fortunate enough to be in the market for vintage G Plan (this Mad Men tagline, “We’d rather come home to a beautiful corner than a whole roomful of clutter”, is brilliant), they would receive my first email.
The latest post on their blog, Vintage by the seaside, highlights Trevose Harbour House, a Saint Ives guesthouse that is executed with an exquisite attention to detail, including several items source from Your Vintage Life.
Your Vintage Life is always open, and Trevose Harbour House is currently accepting reservations. Be forewarned though. The only handcrafted spirits to be found will likely be from the Balvanie. Which is never a bad thing.
