One of the great things about the craft community is that we know not to take ourselves too seriously. This is clearly evidenced by the latest press release from
Downslope Distilling which, for all it's mirth, doesn't seem like that much of stretch.
In an unusually bold move, Downslope Distilling, of Centennial, Colorado has taken it upon itself to declare the official Cocktail of Winter. The season has been going on a bit and it seems that everyone in the US has been effected by the weather of late. An antidote needed to be established and who other than a craft distillery in Colorado to do such a thing.
The name of this season snatcher is the MELTED MAYAN. The cocktail heats up a south of the border treasure by integrating Mexican hot chocolate with Pepper Vodka to make a cocktail that makes watching the snow blow by less ... tedious.
The Melted Mayan
- 1.5 oz Downslope Pepper Vodka
- One Abuelita Chocolate tablet (available at most grocers)
- Whole Milk
- Whipped cream
- Bring 1 cup of milk to a high simmer and add crushed tablet to milk
- Whisk milk until chocolate is dissolved and milk is frothy
- Rim a large clear mug with turbinado (sugar in the raw)
- Pour spirits in mug, top with whip cream, dust with chipotle powder
- Look out the window the rest of the day and dream of ancient cultures!
